First of all I want to credit the photos used in this piece to the National Parks Service HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey) http://www.nps.gov/history/hdp/. This in an invaluable tool for scholars of historic architecture.
I was doing some historical research on the west end and came across these photos taken in the 1970's as part of the Historic Buildings Inventory. These buildings represent the best Italianate architecture that would rival many other better known cities. The interiors are resplendent in their attention to detail. Interiors like this are what every presrvationists lives for and strives to recreate when doing a historic restoration.
