Rain barrels: increasing capacity

With the current drought conditions you have probably been thinking about saving your plants. Some of you may recall we added a rain collection barrel to our house. It is 75 gallons and had provided most of our watering needs.  However with the lack of rain it has on occasion run out so we decided to expand our system.

We added an additional 35 gallons with the simple addition of a trash barrel we purchased at the local home improvement store. To add the barrel we needed to purchase 2 PVC Connectors (1 1/2 inch) and a piece of PVC pipe.

You will need to mark your existing barrel and cut an opening.  which should be just slightly below the level of your overflow pipe, the fittings just crew on but you will need some PVC glue to glue the connector pipe in. Total cost around 25 bucks.
